Spending time with our whole family at the lake are the best days of the summer for me. What a bonus, then, to have Jason stay longer and to have him all to ourselves for a few more days. The minute he walked in the door I knew we had to measure him on our “measuring wall” and sure enough he has grown two inches just since Christmas. All the kids’ growth is measured on our kitchen wall in permanent marker (not my choice). Even Lucy, our newest grand puppy, and Quack Quack, Paige’s blanket have been immortalized on our growth wall.

On our way home from Iowa City, Jason and I met Jim at the lake and he was able to get out his new wake board again. This time, he made it to the standing position and we were all thrilled. We were sad to see him leave early on Saturday morning and I don’t even think he was quite ready. During the week he drove the boat, the Highlander, the golf cart and the John Deere.

Well, you can finally see the shape of a building happening from Stephenson Street now! I also got to meet Chris today who’s the manager of the construction project for Brown’s. He lives in my home town of Cedar Rapids and travels to Freeport Monday through Friday. What makes that even harder is that he has three-year-old triplets and other children, as well. Marsha said that exciting things are also happening inside the interior of the church as evidenced by a huge rubble pile of cement but I didn’t have a flash with me today. More on that progress tomorrow …

Sandhill Cranes

July 20, 2009

Sometimes a 200mm lens seems like nothing. Jim was out on a bike ride tonight and called me to grab my camera and photograph these cranes he found off of Iris Road. I was really intent on finishing two orders tonight but since it was such a beautiful evening I headed out there. We also drove over to the East side of hiway 26 to shoot this freshly cut hay field. I explained to the farmer as he exited his John Deere that the textures and rows were so appealing. “It’s always nice when somebody’s interested in your world,” he responded. Definitely worth the interruption.

Again, I have been lax at getting update photos of our church construction project. Of course, I really haven’t posted anything at all this summer but things will probably slow down a bit for me now. Also, I was under the illusion that not much was happening due to the frequent rains but when I got up to the 2nd floor again, I saw that the cement floor had been poured. I totally missed that.

What a beautiful day and a beautiful couple. The wedding party was pretty sweet, too. All of this combined makes some pretty sweet photos – here’s a glimpse into their story from June 20th.
